A quick word before the legal bits
Hi, I’m the mum behind Nest, Nurse and Nourish. I take your privacy seriously – partly because the law requires me to, but mostly because I’m a reader of other people’s blogs too, and I know how it feels to wonder what happens to your information online.
This page explains what data this website collects, why, how it’s used, and what control you have over it. If anything is unclear, please email me at a.nourish.ad.life@gmail.com and I’ll happily explain.
Privacy Policy
Who runs this website
Nest, Nurse and Nourish is a personal blog operated by [Your first name] from Sydney, Australia. I am the data controller for the purposes of the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), where applicable.
For any privacy-related questions or requests, contact me at: a.nourish.ad.life@gmail.com
What information I collect
I collect only what’s necessary to run this website and respond to readers. Specifically:
- Information you give me directly:
- Your name and email address if you sign up for my newsletter or email list
- Your name, email address, and message if you use the contact form
- Your name, email address, and comment content if you leave a comment on a post (if comments are enabled)
- Any other information you choose to share with me via email or social media
- Information collected automatically when you visit:
- Your IP address (anonymised where possible)
- Browser type and version
- Operating system
- Pages you visit and time spent on each page
- Referring website (where you came from)
- General location (country and city level, never street-level)
- Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)
- Information from third parties:
- When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, the affiliate program (e.g., Amazon Associates) tells me that a sale occurred and the commission amount, but does not share your personal details with me.
Why I collect this information
Each type of data is collected for a specific reason:
- Email addresses — to send you the newsletter you signed up for, or to reply to your contact message
- Comments — to display them publicly on the relevant post and reply if appropriate
- Analytics data — to understand which articles are useful, which need improvement, and where my readers come from. I never use this data to identify you personally.
- Affiliate purchase data — to calculate my commissions and improve my recommendations
The legal basis for processing your data (relevant for EU/UK readers):
- Consent — for newsletter signups, non-essential cookies, and comments
- Legitimate interest — for basic analytics and website security
- Contractual necessity — for delivering services you’ve requested (e.g., sending the newsletter)
- Legal obligation — where required by tax, consumer protection, or other laws
Who I share your information with
I don’t sell your personal data. Ever. I share limited information only with the following service providers, each of which has its own privacy policy:
- Hostinger — my web hosting provider (data storage, server logs)
- Google Analytics — for website analytics (anonymised IP)
- Google Search Console — for search performance data (no personal data)
- My email service provider [e.g., ConvertKit, MailerLite, Mailchimp] — for sending newsletters (only your email and name)
- Affiliate programs (Amazon Associates, ShareASale, Impact, Awin, CJ) — only when you click an affiliate link, and only the data their tracking systems collect (typically a cookie and the fact that you came from my site)
- WordPress and related plugins — for site functionality
- Akismet (anti-spam) — checks comment content for spam patterns
I will also disclose information if required by law (e.g., a valid court order from an Australian court).
International data transfers
Some of the service providers above are based outside Australia, including in the United States and European Union. Where personal data is transferred internationally, I rely on standard contractual clauses or the providers’ Privacy Shield / adequacy decisions to ensure your data remains protected.
How long I keep your data
- Newsletter subscribers — until you unsubscribe, plus a short administrative retention period
- Comments — indefinitely, unless you ask me to delete them
- Contact form submissions — kept for up to 24 months for reference, then deleted
- Analytics data — anonymised and aggregated; identifying data retained no longer than 26 months in Google Analytics
- Affiliate data — retained according to the affiliate program’s policies (typically 12-24 months)
Your rights
Depending on your location, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to access — request a copy of the data I hold about you
- Right to correct — ask me to fix inaccurate or incomplete data
- Right to delete — ask me to delete your data (“right to be forgotten”)
- Right to restrict processing — ask me to limit how I use your data
- Right to object — object to specific uses of your data (e.g., direct marketing)
- Right to data portability — receive your data in a portable format (e.g., CSV)
- Right to withdraw consent — at any time, for any data processing based on consent
- Right to lodge a complaint — with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au, or with your local data protection authority
To exercise any of these rights, email me at a.nourish.ad.life@gmail.com. I’ll respond within 30 days.
How I protect your data
I use industry-standard security measures, including:
- HTTPS encryption across the entire site
- Secure password practices and two-factor authentication on admin accounts
- Regular software, plugin, and theme updates
- Limited access to data — only I can see your contact form submissions or newsletter list
- Hosting with a reputable provider (Hostinger) that maintains its own security standards
No website can guarantee 100% security, but I take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Children’s privacy
This website is intended for adults – specifically parents and parents-to-be. I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided information through this site, please contact me and I’ll remove it immediately.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
I may update this policy from time to time as the site evolves, the law changes, or my service providers change. When I make material changes, I’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For significant changes, I’ll also note the update on the homepage or via the newsletter.
Cookie Policy
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device to remember information about your visit. They help websites function properly, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use them.
Why this site uses cookies
Nest, Nurse and Nourish uses cookies for the following purposes:
- Essential website functionality — keeping the site working properly
- Analytics — understanding which content is most useful (always anonymised)
- Affiliate tracking — crediting affiliate programs when you click through to a partner brand
- Comments and personalisation — remembering your name/email so you don’t re-enter them
- Embedded content — videos, Pinterest pins, and other embedded media
Types of cookies on this site
| Category | Examples | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | WordPress session cookies, security cookies | Core site functionality, login, security | Session or up to 1 year |
| Analytics | Google Analytics (_ga, _gid) | Anonymised traffic analytics | Up to 26 months |
| Affiliate | Amazon, ShareASale, Impact, Awin tracking cookies | Credit affiliate commissions | 1 to 30 days, depending on program |
| Functional | Comment author cookies | Remember your name/email for comments | Up to 1 year |
| Embedded content | YouTube, Pinterest, social media | Display embedded videos and pins | Varies by service |
Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by third-party services I use, not by me directly. These include:
- Google Analytics — for traffic measurement (see Google’s privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy)
- Affiliate networks — Amazon Associates, ShareASale, Impact, Awin, CJ (each has its own policy)
- Embedded content platforms — YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram (when embedded content appears on a page)
- Akismet — for spam comment filtering
I cannot control third-party cookies on your behalf, but you can manage them through the third party directly or through your browser settings.
How to manage cookies
You have several ways to control cookies:
- Cookie consent banner — when you first visit the site, you’ll see a banner asking you to accept or decline non-essential cookies. Your choice is remembered for future visits, and you can change it at any time by clearing your browser cookies and revisiting.
- Browser settings — most browsers let you:
- View which cookies are stored
- Delete specific cookies or all cookies
- Block cookies from specific sites
- Block all third-party cookies
- Be notified before a cookie is set
- Chrome: support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
- Firefox: support.mozilla.org/kb/cookies-information-websites-store-on-your-computer
- Safari: support.apple.com/guide/safari/manage-cookies-sfri11471
- Edge: support.microsoft.com/microsoft-edge
- Opt out of Google Analytics — install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
- Opt out of advertising cookies — visit youronlinechoices.com (EU/UK) or aboutads.info (US/global)
What happens if you disable cookies
If you disable cookies entirely, some parts of this site may not function properly. Specifically:
- You may need to re-enter your name and email each time you comment
- Affiliate links will still work, but I may not receive credit for any purchase you make (which means I can’t continue creating free content — so if you appreciate the site, leaving affiliate cookies enabled is the easiest way to support it at no cost to you)
- Embedded content may not load
Do Not Track signals
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. There is currently no industry standard for responding to DNT signals, so this website does not currently respond to them. You can still manage cookies through the methods above.
Questions about this policy?
If you have any questions about how Nest, Nurse and Nourish handles your privacy or cookies, please email me at a.nourish.ad.life@gmail.com. I’m happy to explain anything that’s unclear.
Thank you for trusting me with your information.
— Amanda Nest, Nurse and Nourish
